A fair amount of metal was recovered from VT6 this season.  Of the 17 metallic objects found, 16 were iron and one was bronze.  Iron was by far the most common type of metal recovered and was found in Loci 5 , 6 , 7 , 11 , and 12 .  The one piece of bronze that was uncovered was from Locus 5 .  Much of the metallic finds recovered were chunks of ferric material which may be iron slag.  Many of these ferric chunks were quite large, some being approximately 20cm long ( VdM20060194 ).  One such piece of ferric material was shaped like a disc, with a diameter of approximately 20-25cm ( VdM20060227 ).  These chunks of ferric material were found in Loci 6 , 7 , and 12 (with Loci 6 and 12 being equivalent).  In addition to ferric material or slag, pieces of iron were also found ( VdM20060209 , VdM20060092 , VdM20060189 , VdM20060187 , and VdM20060206 ).

Editorial Note

Open Context editors work with data contributors to annotate datasets to shared vocabularies, ontologies, and other standards using 'Linked Open Data' (LOD) methods.

The annotations presented above approximate some of the meaning in this contributed data record to concepts defined in shared standards. These annotations are provided to help make datasets easier to understand and use with other datasets.
