July 17 Saturday A.M only

Excavation of the fill in the central hole in feature continued, to remove all the fill for the exposed depth of the feature (approx. 2 meters).  This included removal of the large "plug" rock by breaking it up with a sledge hammer; the stones removed from the feature are being piled up in various corners of the trench, and the dirt removed is being dumped in the same area as dirt from the previous excavation in this trench.  The back, hollow half of feature and the bottom layer of stones exposed and cleaned, and will be photographed, and drawn by the architect. Sent down were:

  • 2 boxes of tile fragments
  • 1 strawberry box of coarse sherds
  • 2 bone fragments
  • 1 very small, unidentifiable fragment of bronze

Left in box in trench were several plaster fragments, some burnt - these will be counted when trench is completed

Editorial Note

Open Context editors work with data contributors to annotate datasets to shared vocabularies, ontologies, and other standards using 'Linked Open Data' (LOD) methods.

The annotations presented above approximate some of the meaning in this contributed data record to concepts defined in shared standards. These annotations are provided to help make datasets easier to understand and use with other datasets.
