T6E (2)  Rectangular Cut A

A trench 1.5x6.5 metres was laid out to include a double line of stones ( ) in trench T6E and was designated "Rectangular Cut A".  This area was not far removed from "Stratum G" and the similar group of stones which covered it (see pages 152 & 184 ).  Excavation between the two lines of stones revealled in the eastern end galestra only, but in the western end a packet of dark brown earth producing a small quantity of sherds without tile fragments.  The northern edge was bordered by a row of standing slabs and the southern by a rough "wall" of stones only one layer deep.  The standing line of slabs extended down into the brown layer which also appeared to continue on the northern side of the line of slabs, which had apparently been sunk into the previously, existing brown stratum.

Editorial Note

Open Context editors work with data contributors to annotate datasets to shared vocabularies, ontologies, and other standards using 'Linked Open Data' (LOD) methods.

The annotations presented above approximate some of the meaning in this contributed data record to concepts defined in shared standards. These annotations are provided to help make datasets easier to understand and use with other datasets.
