Description Thin cut-out plaque in form of griffin on low plinth has flat narrow rectangular bottom and smooth, flat, curving sides with broad, side surfaces carved in relief - slight differences between the two sides, with one (facing right) slightly more finely carved. Animal has small head with erect triangular ears, thick projecting brow ridge, raised round eye set between ridge and beak, which is thick in the middle, and turned down to a sharp point. Neck is curved, rounded area merging with body at area of wing, which is swept-back, upward-curving, round-tipped area with raised flat ridge on inner side of curve, and a series of curved grooves and flat ridges below this to indicate feathers. Bottom edge has raised flat curved vertical band, and rounded chest, on sides is carved with inward-curving continuation of the upper ridge border of wing; below the curl thus formed are two rounded thin diagonal ridges, and below these are the forelegs cut in one section, very slightly rounded on the front. Front legs: rounded rectangular setion is constricted at ankles and curves forward to form thin, slightly rounded paws in plinth. Body proper is rounded tubular section merging with round area of hind quarters and legs - legs are strangely folded with semicircular groove at juncture with haunches, and bottom section is long rounded thin rectangular section folded to front and constricted to form small rounded paws. Tail is thin, rounded flat-edged section curving upward to form rump and bottom edge of wings.
