Description Ivory spoon fragment: The bowl is fragmentary and terminates towards the handle in a volute, outlined with raised edges. Holes within the spirals of the volute for attaching insets of different material. The volute terminates in a cylinder bordered by a single band at each end. Between the bands, recessed squares forming a battlement meander. Hole in each square indicates attachment for inset of different material. The cylinder terminates in a series of small projections around the circumference. These are for attachment to the handle proper. Hole in the center of the cylinder perhaps for inserting dowel connecting it to handle.

Editorial Note

Open Context editors work with data contributors to annotate datasets to shared vocabularies, ontologies, and other standards using 'Linked Open Data' (LOD) methods.

The annotations presented above approximate some of the meaning in this contributed data record to concepts defined in shared standards. These annotations are provided to help make datasets easier to understand and use with other datasets.
