Fabric Category Terracotta
Object Type Architectural::Pan Tile
Fragment Noted true
Object Type (notes) Curved Pan Tile Fragment with Full Length and Flange
Size Max. Pres. Length 0.510 m, Max. Pres. Width 0.128 m, Max. Pres. Thickness of Pan 0.017 m, Max. Pres. Height of Flange 0.041 m, Avg. Pres. Thickness of Flange 0.020 m, Min. Pres. Thickness of Flange 0.008 m
Condition Restored from five fragments with plaster infill. Surfaces are heavily worn, pitted, encrusted, and mottled in color, especially on the underside; numerous inclusions visible throughout the fabric.
Description Pan tile fragment preserves the complete length with a small portion of both finished lateral edges and a squared flange with flat upper surface. The flange is uniform in thickness until it meets a locking notch ( 0.077 m in length) where it thins and curves down to meet the finished edge of the pan. The entire tile is convex, preserving a gentle, regular curve for its entire length.
