Munsell Color 2.5Y 4/4 olive brown
Description Locus 2 consisted of topsoil. The soil of Locus 2 was slightly lighter, more olive brown, and more claylike than the soil of Locus 1, the humus layer. Locus 2 still contained many rocks and roots, which is typical of topsoil; however these roots belonged to trees and bushes, rather than the grass roots of Locus 1. Locus 2 was a fairly thick soil package, averaging approximately 40cm in depth. Despite the depth of this stratum, little material was recovered from Locus 2; 10 bowls of tile and plaster, 262 pottery sherds, and 22 pieces of bone were found in Locus 2. However, a mixture of ancient and modern materials were found in this locus, indicating that it was not a truly stratified deposit and allows us to securely identify this locus as topsoil. Thus no contextual information can be gained from materials recovered from Locus 2.

Editorial Note

Open Context editors work with data contributors to annotate datasets to shared vocabularies, ontologies, and other standards using 'Linked Open Data' (LOD) methods.

The annotations presented above approximate some of the meaning in this contributed data record to concepts defined in shared standards. These annotations are provided to help make datasets easier to understand and use with other datasets.
